The Star Thief ~ Blog Tour

We are excited today to be hosting the blog tour for
The Star Thief
by Jamie Grey

She might only be twenty-three, but Renna Carrizal is the most notorious thief in the galaxy. There’s just one problem – all she wants is to get the frak out of the business.

But when Renna rescues an injured boy from the warehouse she’s casing, she finds herself on the run from the mob instead of enjoying retirement on a garden world. Turns out, the kid was a plant to lead her to MYTH, a top-secret galactic protection agency.

MYTH needs Renna’s special skills, and they make her an offer she can’t refuse – unless she'd like to spend the rest of her life on a prison ship. To make sure she does her job they shackle her with a MYTH watchdog, the handsome but arrogant Captain Finn.

A former mercenary-turned-galactic-hero, Finn happens to have his own dirty secrets. Secrets that Renna wouldn’t mind uncovering for herself. Together, they discover an experiment to develop illegal cybernetics that will create an unstoppable army. The intended target? The human star fleet.

Now Renna must use her skills as the Star Thief to pull off the biggest job of her career – saving the galaxy. And herself.

(Recommended for 18+ due to mature themes and sexual content)

My Review

The Star Thief was a wonderfully crafted Sci-Fi book set in a world that actually takes you to many different places, all of which you could easily imagine yourself in due to Jamie's beautiful writing style.  She pays attention to details to make you feel like you are right there in the action with the characters in a unique style that blends with the story while you read.  I sometimes have a hard time with Sci-Fi books because I don't see details in my head easily and character details (how other species may look) don't get enough attention. This was never the case while reading The Star Thief.

I loved the character Renna.  She is feisty and she knows how to do her job well.  It was interesting to see her use her skill set as a thief to get out of different situations that weren't all about, well, being a thief.  She isn't trustworthy to anyone around her which makes it interesting to see which side she was actually going to play as she ultimately had her own best interest in the forefront.  She wants to retire but ends up entangled in this one last job that is a bit more than she bargained for. I liked how Renna's past was told without doing a lot of flashback scenes. Those are generally a big turn off for me so I was well pleased once again in how Jamie's writing style agrees with what I like to read.

I also enjoyed watching Renna's relationship with Finn unfold. They end up working well together even though the trust level between them isn't always 100%.  Everyone seems to have a lot of secrets from their past that can easily come back to haunt them and Finn is no exception.  There were also several minor characters that were well represented and interesting without overwhelming with too many people to keep track of.

The story itself was intriguing and kept my interest throughout. I am excited to see where the story goes in the next book in the series.

Here is an excerpt from The Star Thief:

Renna stepped forward, tugging at her shirt. Why hadn’t she done something better with her hair this morning? “By the gods. Someone up there sure has a sense of humor,” she drawled, leaning against the cell door.

The alien’s expression froze, shock flashing across the harsh planes of his face before he masked it. “Renna Carrizal. I thought you were on some outer rim world living in luxury.”

She smiled sweetly. “Or dead?”

He shrugged apologetically. “You know I didn't have a choice, my dear. The job paid well, and you were getting a bit too close to my territory for comfort.”

She felt Captain Finn’s disapproval like a hand pressing against her back. She ignored it and let her gaze travel across Viktis’s broad shoulders. “And here I thought saving your life all those years ago had been a good deed. Ah well, all good deeds are punished in this business, aren't they?” She let her eyes drift down to his lips, then she licked her own. Slowly.

Viktis chuckled. “Nice to see you haven't changed, my dear.”

“Nice to see you have.” Her gaze lowered deliberately down his lean body, the leather jacket and tight breeches he wore showing off his lithe frame. The Ileth aliens were a handsome race, and Viktis had definitely aged well. The last time they'd been together, he'd been a rough school boy, awkward and embarrassed. Things had definitely changed.

“You still running that old bucket of junk?” she asked.

“The Monet was a beauty. But no, I have a new cruiser. Won her in a card game.”

She laughed and tossed her hair. “That’s so cliché.”

Viktis grinned. “For a reason. It seems to happen more frequently than you'd expect.”  He turned to the mercenary guarding the door. “Get her out of there.”

The man obeyed. A moment later Viktis grabbed her arm and pulled her into a tight hug. “Damn, it's good to see you again, Renna.”

She hugged him back, making sure to rub her hands along his torso. Not only was he impressively muscled, she discovered he had two guns strapped to his waist and a knife slipped into a side pocket. He'd come well-armed. She expected no less.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Star Thief and if Sci-Fi is your thing  (and even if it's not) I would highly recommend this book.
